Tragic Update on Cargo Plane Accident: Death Toll Increases to 13

The total count of lives lost from the freight aircraft that burst into flames and plummeted has now risen to 13, per recent announcements.

Official's Announcement

While en route to the Union’s memorial service, I was informed of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a result of the UPS flight 2976 incident,” wrote the local official in a online message. “My heart are with the families, associates and co-workers of all who were lost in this week’s calamity. We will overcome this together.”

Casualties Named

A release from the company listed the flight crew operating the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies go out to every UPSer who has been affected and everyone in our community area – assisting you and guaranteeing you receive the attention and resources you need is our priority,” the company’s message stated.

Probe Updates

National authorities disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s port side wing caught fire and an engine fell off soon after liftoff from the airfield, causing the jet to plummet and erupt into a blaze.

The NTSB stated it is investigating the jet’s service record, which was in Texas for repairs several weeks prior to the crash.

Aviation records revealed the aircraft was on the ground in that location from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are aware that this aircraft was present in the facility,” stated an investigator on the following day, without providing a precise time frame. “We will review every piece of maintenance that was performed, from the Texas period, all the way to the time of the journey.”

Recovery of Vital Evidence

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were found, and the engine was found on the airfield.

The devices – called black boxes – were designed to endure collision damage and intense fire from fires, and they appeared to be intact when located among the crash debris. Officials plan on reviewing data from the recorders.

The plane’s concluding recorded information showed an altitude of that level and a rate of that speed prior to the impact.

Maintenance Record

Per Federal Aviation Administration files from 18 September, a fissure on a structural piece in the center wing fuel tank needed fixes.

The company ST Engineering, which indicated it supplies aircraft servicing for UPS’s aircraft and operates a service location in that city, chose not to speak, but said it would work closely when investigators contacted it.

Operations Continue

In the meantime, UPS Worldport activities restarted Wednesday night with its express or night sort procedure, representative the company official stated. The three runways at the aviation hub were also reopened.

The sorting center in the city is the organization’s biggest. The hub employs more than 20,000 individuals in the locality, manages numerous trips each day and processes more than 400,000 packages per hour.

Local Response

A gathering was conducted on the late afternoon of 6 November by the area labor union, which supports employees at the airfield, the firm’s primary air cargo hub.

Worker representatives, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the vigil with a quiet tribute at that time, the estimated time of the accident previously.

“This event was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the mayor told the group of two hundred. “No one had a chance to part to any one of those who we have lost.”
